This year's Children's Day stamp is a reproduction of a painting entitled "Children Playing" by six years old Bela Ramniklal Raval of Palanpur, Gujarat. It is a prize-winning entry from the Shankar's International Children's Competetion 1972.
Started in 1949 thia annual competetion aims at finding talents in children by encouraging their creative efforts and thus giving an impetus to Child Art. The competition is a popular event, attracting children from more and more countries every year. During 24th competition held in 1972, children from about 100 countries sent in over 150,000 entries both paintings and wrtten work.
The P & T Department has much pleasure in dedicating this stamp to the children all over the world. |
